Anansi Goes Fishing!

Dear Parents and Students,

Just a reminder that we are moving into the last stage of this semester and while the circumstances might not be the best, we’ll try to make the most of it. While this is a lengthy post, please read it to the end.

One problem that surfaced this week was that quite a few students wanted to play with toys, little pieces of paper, and even garbage during class time. Some of them even tried to ignore me, when I asked them to do, or NOT to do something!  Needless to say, I was quite shocked that they didn't seem to do what was expected of them during class time even though they knew!

Please remind your children as to what is expected of them during class time, as it does take a village to raise a child!

Homework

Please make sure that your child does the homework every day.  While I understand that some of the children will not have a lot of free time at home, I do expect them to READ every day for at least 15 minutes.
***If there is no written homework, reading WILL be their homework.
***Homework for week 14 is at the end of this note.

Communication books

Homework will be written down once a week on Mondays in their communication books. Should Monday be a holiday, homework will be assigned on Tuesday. Please check the blog or their communication books.
Please sign the communication book after your child has completed the homework. If you have urgent business to discuss, please make an appointment with me.
***Please do not ask for extra homework for your child if he or she has not completed the assigned tasks.

Grading system

I use a system called Learnboost.com to record the children’s scores. You need to set up an account and I will send you a password in order for you to access your child’s grades. This should be up and running as soon as I get your child’s scores for the 2nd Monthly Exams.

*Please send those signed exam papers back by Wednesday.
**Please note that the school report gives only the results for the exams, not the semester scores, therefor the scores will be different.

Grading will be done on the following:
a. completed classwork,
b. completed projects,
c. learning and classroom attitude,
d. participation in class,
e. homework completion,
f. general behavior,
g. weekly tests, (such as the Unit Test as well as Spelling tests)

Make sure that you help your child with the spelling every day. Alternatively, you can access Spellingcity.com, type in the words that you want your child to learn and let them do the rest.

Glogs and Review

I have made a GLOG (click on word)available for you to review with your child at home. This is like a digital poster of what we do or will do in the class. Please note that this takes a lot of time and effort to do and will be done as I have time.

*If you have any questions as to how you can help your child at home, this is one solution.
